Tom Carroll
President & CEO
TBWA\Worldwide
Tom played a key role in transforming TBWA from a great independent creative shop into one of the most effective networks in the world. Under his leadership TBWA has expanded relationships with clients like ABSOLUT, McDonald's and Nissan, and grown the client roster to include Mars, Visa, Gatorade and Pepsi.
Tom began his career in 1978 at Mathieu, Gerfen & Bresner. In 1983, he met Jay Chiat and discovered his passion for developing ideas that could literally change the world. He worked at ChiatDay both in New York and Los Angeles, leading the General Electric, Pizza Hut and Miller Brewing accounts. In 1989, Tom founded Weiss, Whitten, Carroll, Stagliano; in 1995, he moved to MVBMS, where he was the partner responsible for Dunkin' Donuts, Evian, Oppenheimer Funds and Universal Studios.
Tom returned to TBWA in 1999 as president of the Los Angeles office. In April 2001, he took on additional responsibilities as president of the Americas, and returned to New York in 2002. In 2004, he was promoted to vice chairman of TBWA\Worldwide. He became president in 2006 and added CEO to his title in 2007.
Tom was named "2008 Executive of the Year" by Advertising Age magazine. "What really set Tom apart last year,” added Ad Age, “was his commitment to improving the ad business when so many of his peers were afraid to do so.”
In addition to his TBWA responsibilities, Tom also serves on the board of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's) and the Ad Council.
