As VP, Corporate Marketing for IBM, John is responsible for IBM’s Brand development and marketing program execution on a global basis. This includes responsibility for leading IBM’s "Smarter Planet" agenda. John was named to this position in 2009.

Previously, John was VP, Marketing for IBM Americas, where he led Marketing & Strategy for IBM’s largest sales territory. Prior to his role in the Americas, John held a range of marketing and sales roles in IBM Asia-Pacific, including VP, Marketing and Channels, IBM Japan and VP, Marketing, Asia-Pacific. John also led Sales and Marketing for IBM’s Personal Computer Division in Asia. He first joined IBM in 1996 as a Product Marketing Manager in IBM’s PC business in Raleigh, NC.

Before IBM, John was with Procter & Gamble, where he worked in Brand Management. John started his career with Nationsbank (now Bank of America), where he was a credit officer focusing on financial institutions and securities.

John serves on the Boards of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and Business Marketing Association (BMA). In 2010, he was named "B2B Marketing of the Year" by B2B Magazine.

John graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with bachelors degrees in Economics and Political Science. John received his MBA from Harvard University.
