Earlier this week, we released our 2011 US Hot Searches. The iPhone, Whitney Houston’s rumored pregnancy, and inquiries about Katy Perry’s height all secured top spots in our most-searched list. Check out the most popular keywords AOLers searched, listed below by category, and find out if your brand is on the list.

Hot Searches Reveal what AOLers Really Want

Movies

  1. Harry Potter 7
  2. The Help
  3. Super 8
  4. Water for Elephants
  5. Cars 2
  6. Captain America
  7. Bridesmaids
  8. Pirates of the Caribbean
  9. Midnight in Paris
  10. Breaking Dawn

Our Opinion: Family-friendly movie-watching is  super popular with the AOL audience and the popularity of family-friendly movies is  reflective acrossthe film industry as a whole. According to BoxOfficeMojo, there has been an upward swing in family film attendance over the past 3 years, with family titles comprising more than half of the top 10-grossing films at the box office. In 2011 alone, nearly half of the top 30 grossing movies were targeted toward families. Auto Brands

  1. Porsche
  2. Ford
  3. BMW
  4. Audi
  5. Toyota
  6. Honda
  7. Hyundai
  8. Nissan
  9. Kia
  10. Chevrolet

Our Opinion: Porsche leads the auto brand category search, possibly attributed to their huge “fan-boy” base of enthusiasts, because honestly who doesn’t want to imagine themselves driving around in a newly launched Carrera? BMW, another luxe vehicle brand,  takes the #3 spot followed by Audi and a selection of other imports. The luxury vehicle market appeals to the online audience, and with many of AOL’s properties including the Homepage overindexing against those with a HHI of $100,000+ it’s no surprise that luxury vehicles top our 2011 searches.

Vacation Destinations

  1. Florida Vacations
  2. Hawaii Vacations
  3. Costa Rica Vacations
  4. Bermuda Vacations
  5. Aruba Vacations
  6. Belize Vacations
  7. Ireland Vacations
  8. Maine Vacations
  9. Tahiti Vacations
  10. Alaska Vacations

Our Opinion: AOLers actively searched  warm travel destinations in North America—at least that’s what we can gather from our 2011 most-searched vacation destinations list! Florida topped the list, no doubt Disney World playing a huge part in its appeal. Also included in the Top 10 were adventure destinations like Belize and Costa Rica.

Tech Gadgets

  1. Apple iPhone
  2. Apple iPad
  3. Amazon Kindle
  4. Barnes & Noble Nook
  5. Motorola Xoom
  6. Nintendo 3DS
  7. Samsung Galaxy
  8. HP Touchpad
  9. BlackBerry Playbook
  10. Garmin Nuvi

Our Opinion: It’s no surprise that 7 of the top 10 tech gadget searches were for tablets Deloitte declared 2011 the year of the tablet in its annual predictions. AOL searches show intense consumer interest in Apple products throughout the year, as seen by Engadget live blog announcements for the iPad2 and iPhone 4S. Evolving into tablet territory, eReaders were also sought-after devices, spurred by new releases, with projected sales of 25 million by the end of 2011.  The launch of the Nintendo 3DS was the largest in the company’s history, no wonder consumers on AOL were eager to learn more.
