AOL has delivered another first-to-market advertising solution with the launch of Editions’ first ad—in 3D.

Editions Launches First Ad with BMW

When the BMW Group sought to maintain its position as the most visionary and progressive luxury automotive company, AOL teamed up with Cooliris and Crisp Media to create two beautiful ad executions in a 3D and HTML ad format.

Delivering a highly engaging and rich ad experience, the BMW ad on Editions encourages readers to explore their new model, the BMW i8, by giving users ability to rotate and enlarge the model as well as unveil the carbon fibers built into its exterior.

The 3D advertisement is only available on an iPad2, but you can see a video demonstration of the 3D Cooliris Ad in action here.  iPad 1 early adopters will see the HTML ad by Crisp Media, which can be seen here.

Mandar Shinde, the Director for Mobile Monetization at AOL said, “We chose cutting edge advertising for Editions as it was not only launching our point of view for Tablet Advertising but also creating an experience that fit with Editions’ user experience. We set the right standards for AOL premium formats on the tablet front and the first result was fantastic!”

Editions is the first iPad magazine that delivers a truly customized reading experience. Featuring both hyper-local news and weather, and major market information, Editions is relevant to cities and small towns alike. Every morning, Editions readers get a dose of the content they’ve opted into and recommendations of new articles and publications based on the way they use the magazine.

In 2011, mobile and tablet shipments outnumbered desktop and notebook shipments. In 2012, tablet sales in the US are expected to rise to more than 40M!1
